Recent News Educator of the Year! The California League of Middle Schools’ "Educator of the Year" award is given annually to 11 educators, representing regions throughout California, who exemplify educational excellence and have made significant efforts to implement elements of educational reform in middle schools. Up to 10 finalists from each region are honored locally. This year’s nominee and winner, representing all of Orange County, is Keleigh Bucci, El Viento’s 7th grade mentor/teacher at Vista View Middle School. She was nominated for her dedication to students during and outside of the school day, her involvement in leadership positions at Vista View, and her willingness to make sure that none of her students are “left behind.” Join us in congratulating our teacher, Keleigh! Getting Into Science! January/February 2011 - Our 5th grade El Viento teacher, Jesse Rothman, has created curriculum for a science-pilot program for his Flight 11 students. The School News Roll Call was on hand as students conducted a pig dissection. In addition, this STEM program was recently featured in the Huntington Beach Independent. Reuse-a-Shoe Service Project November 2010 - Flight 9 students conducted a green community service project at their school, Vista View. The School News Roll Call reports. Tour of El Viento Program at Tiger Woods Learning Center July 2, 2010 - El Viento's newest Board Member, Dr. Ding-Jo Currie, Chancellor of the Coast Community College Distrct, recently visited our summer program at the Tiger Woods Learning Center. Corporate Recess Players El Viento Benefit Show Summer/Fall 2010 - Board member Brenda Glim is the co-founder of the improvisational group the Corporate Recess Players who hold performances at Old World German Restaurant in Huntington Beach. They are fantastic and always deliver a great time! They donated $3 from each ticket purchase for those who brought the attached flyer. She is currently attending California State University, Fullerton and serves as a Student Trustee on El Viento's Board of Directors. El Viento Teaches Courage and Discipline (OC Register Article) November 2009 - El Viento is selected as one of eight agencies to have a Possible Dream funded by proceeds from the OC Register's Season of Caring partnership with the Festival of Children Foundation.
